Exciting Real-World Learning at JA BizTown for Our 5th & 6th Graders!
Last week, our 5th and 6th-grade students embarked on an unforgettable learning adventure at JA BizTown—a hands-on experience where they became business leaders, employees, and responsible citizens for the day!
In preparation for their visit, students spent over a month mastering real-world skills, including job interview techniques, writing checks, balancing a checkbook, and managing finances. Their hard work paid off as they stepped into a bustling, simulated town and took on a variety of roles, such as:
🔹 Café Workers
🔹 Builders
🔹 City Hall Employees
🔹 Print Press Operators
🔹 T-Shirt Designers
🔹 Town Store Clerks
🔹 Graphic Designers
🔹 Healthcare Workers
🔹 Newspaper Staff
🔹 Radio Broadcasters
🔹 Advertisement Specialists
🔹 STEM Designers
🔹 Video Game Designers
🔹 Scientists & Lab Technicians
🔹 Supply Store Managers
💼 Student Leadership in Action!
Students with an eye for leadership had the chance to run for District Attorney and Mayor! These ambitious candidates crafted and delivered campaign speeches to their peers, followed by elections to select the town's leaders.
🏦 Managing Money & Making Smart Choices
Throughout the day, students navigated the responsibilities of running a town, including:
✅ Applying for business permits
✅ Handling payroll and business operations
✅ Visiting the bank to cash checks & transfer money
✅ Using ATM-like machines to track earnings & spending
✅ Shopping at student-run businesses and practicing budgeting by choosing to pay with cash or check
This dynamic, real-world experience gave our students a deeper understanding of financial responsibility, teamwork, leadership, and economic decision-making—all in a fun and interactive setting.
We are so proud of their hard work and enthusiasm! Ask your child about their job and what they learned—it’s an experience they won’t forget!
